Mark A. Metzger III

Mark A. Metzger III was born in Webster, Texas, and raised in Missouri City, Texas. Mark attended Elkins High School prior to attending and graduating from the Marine Military Academy in 1999. While at Elkins High School, Mark played trumpet in the marching band and was an officer in the JROTC program participating in the silent drill team, model rocketry club, and color guard. At the Marine Military Academy, Mark served as the Platoon Sergeant of Charlie Company and participated on the football team. During his high school years, Mark was also a cadet officer and later second lieutenant senior member in the Civil Air Patrol and a member of the Boy Scouts.

After high school, Mark then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and attended boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego in 2000. Upon graduation from Basic Training and Marine Combat Training School, Mark attended the Department of Navy’s Cryptologic Training Course for MOS 2631 at the Center for Information Warfare headquartered at Naval Technical Training Center Corry Station in Pensacola, Florida graduating as the Honor Graduate and earning a meritorious promotion. During his tour in the Marine Corps as an Electronic Intelligence Intercept Operator/Analyst, Mark conducted electronic and signals intelligence, information assurance, and national tactical integration activities in order to satisfy the National Security Agency/Central Security Service and Marine Air Ground Task Force requirements. Mark worked directly under the National Security Agency and Central Security Service with participation in Operations: Northern/Southern Watch, Enduring Freedom, and Iraqi Freedom. While in the Marine Corps, Mark also volunteered as a Drill Instructor for the local Young Marines program. Mark received his Honorable Discharge in 2007 at the rank of Sergeant. Subsequently, Mark worked for Lockheed Martin/Martin Marietta as a site security supervisor and other various security contractors.

Upon returning to his native Texas working as a ranch hand on an exotic game ranch in Centerville, Texas, Mark then attended and graduated from Texas A&M University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy. While at Texas A&M, Mark played as a linebacker/defensive end for the Aggie football team (#59), was a tutor for students in Logic and Liberal Arts classes for the Texas A&M Student Athletic Department, and studied abroad his senior year at the Akademie für Internationale Bildung (AiB) in Bonn, Germany. He then came back home to Houston and continued his education at South Texas College of Law (STCL). While attending STCL, Mark participated in summer trial academy and various law societies, including serving as an elected officer in the Delta Theta Phi international law fraternity.

Mark is also a September 2014 graduate of Gerry Spence’s Trial Lawyers College. Located at Thunderhead Ranch in Dubois, Wyoming, it is considered the most prestigious and selective trial advocacy college in America. To date, Gerry Spence has only graduated just over 1,200 students over the past 20 years.

Mark is a member of the Marine Corps League, Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, Harris County Criminal Lawyers Association, The National College of DUI Defense, DUI Defense Lawyers Association, Galveston Bar Association, Houston Bar Association, and Delta Theta Phi International Law Fraternity alumni association.

Outside the courtroom, starting in 2015, Mark organized the very first 22 with 22 for the 22 Silkies Hike, now presently named The Silkies Hike in both Houston and Galveston areas. These events are now held nationwide and are operated by Irreverent Warriors, a 501(c)3 that provides therapeutic relief to military veterans suffering from suicidal tendencies, depression, and PTSD. On November 19, 2022, in appreciation for Mark’s contribution to the veteran community, a Proclamation was issued by Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner proclaiming that November 19th be known as Mark Metzger Day. Mark also speaks at various high schools, aids local homeless veterans and battered women’s shelters, offers pro bono legal work, and provides mentorship to at-risk and orphaned youths. Outside of his legal education, Mark is an ordained Christian minister and is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Theology and Apologetics.
